Grilling season is here and it’s time to plan dinner. Again. Relax, whether you’re out camping or staying home, dinner doesn’t have to become a drag.
Hamburgers are in the weekly rotation all summer long at our house, but there are only so many ways to jazz them up. Or so I thought.
Did you know the makers of the hit show, Bob’s Burgers, put out a cookbook devoted to Bob’s pun-inspired Burgers of the Day?
My family and I have watched this hilarious show for years, so when I stumbled on the Bob’s Burgers Burger Book, I couldn’t wait to try these quirky burgers out.
This post is all about what to grill tonight.
What to Grill for Dinner
Have you ever wondered how creative you’d have to be in order to think up not only an edible but delicious hamburger of the day? Day after day. To infinity.
I am not that person. I rely on resources for inspiration, specifically, tried and true recipes. In the case of Bob’s Burgers, the daily lunch specials are the creation of the show’s comedic writers, not acclaimed chefs, or even family diner owners.
Unique Grilling Ideas
There are seventy-one grilling ideas in this unique recipe book. And like any recipe, can be tweaked to your liking and ingredient availability.

The Final Kraut Down Burger:
The caramelized onions called for in this burger take a lot of love, so I started here before I even got the grill out.
We like a lot of onions, so I used all the onions I had – three to be exact. And I couldn’t find the sweeter Bavarian-style sauerkraut at my local market, but it was just as well. We like the sour part of kraut anyway.

Don’t be in a hurry when you’re cooking the onions… the longer the better. Since I used triple the onions the recipe called for, mine took 55 minutes on low heat to get them browned to our liking:
When the onions are done, add the sauerkraut and heat through:
The most labor-intensive part of dinner is done. Set the topping aside and grab a cocktail until you’re ready to fire up the grill.
When the burgers are done, top with the sauerkraut & onion mixture:
Then melt the swiss cheese over it before building the rest of the burger:
The Bruschetta-Bout-It Burger:

While the burgers were grilling, I prepped (as in, sliced) the ball of fresh mozzarella and tomatoes.
Then built my bruschetta burger: Yum!
